Sylvester

We have no way of knowing how Sylvester ended up on the street. Perhaps someone decided they didn’t want him anymore. As he was not neutered, it’s very possible his hormones led him away from home, unable to find his way back.
However it happened, there’s one thing that’s certain: life on the street, suffering with multiple painful fractures has not been easy for Sylvester. After finally arriving to our Canning Town Centre, it was soon discovered that Sylvester not only had several fractures but because they were long standing, several of them had fused together, making them inoperable. Our vet said that judging by the way things had healed, he must have been living in absolute agony for over a month! This poor boy.
We do not know if he was hit by a car or had fallen from the balcony of a high rise flat. We are so thankful that a concerned member of the public finally discovered him and brought him to a private veterinary practice in Hackney who then reached out to us for help.
Sylvester’s surgery was quite extensive. It was found he was suffering from three pelvic fractures and a humerus fracture. Because his injuries had been left for so long, the bones were completely fused, making it very difficult to repair. We cannot imagine the amount of pain he must have been in.
The surgeries that our vet was able to carry out were on his humerus and hip to enable Sylvester to get about without pain.
At Celia Hammond, it’s our goal to provide a fresh start for animals who have been abandoned, with no one to care for their well-being. Our greatest wish is for Sylvester to be able to run and play again and to enjoy the type of unconditional love that he so willingly gives, even though he has previously been let down by humans. We believe that every cat deserves to enjoy the simple comforts of a permanent home with people who won’t abandon them.
