Greenacres Sanctuary
The Sanctuary resides in over 100 acres of countryside – a mixture of woodland and meadows, providing a permanent home to around 120 resident cats. The Sanctuary also undertake cat rescue and rehoming work in the local area and have many cats both domestic pets and feral cats in need of new homes.

About Greenacres Sanctuary
Visitors to the Sanctuary are very warmly welcomed. We are open every weekend from 1pm – 4.30pm on both Saturdays and Sundays, or during the week by appointment.
Nestled within expansive countryside spanning over 100 acres, The Sanctuary is a haven comprising woodlands and meadows, providing a permanent refuge for approximately 120 resident cats. These feline occupants, for various reasons, have proven challenging to find homes for.
Within The Sanctuary, resident cats enjoy the freedom to roam in and out of the main house, where our dedicated staff reside, or opt for the comfort of numerous cabins and chalets scattered throughout the grounds.
Many of our resident cats are elderly, feral, or semi-feral, making them less likely candidates for adoption due to their unique needs.
Additionally, The Sanctuary boasts a 40-pen cattery, providing temporary housing for cats and kittens awaiting suitable placements in new homes.
Situated amidst the countryside, our Sanctuary is a refuge for cats deemed “unhomeable,” many of whom initially exhibit nervous or feral behaviors. With time spent in the safety of our Sanctuary, some cats gradually warm up to human interaction, while others prefer to maintain their distance.
Resident cats enjoy the freedom to explore the grounds at their leisure. Donated sheds and chalets scattered throughout the Sanctuary grounds provide additional shelter for rescued cats to live freely.
While all cats are welcome to access the main house, some of the more timid ones prefer the companionship of their fellow felines in the chalets.
The Sanctuary’s diverse landscape of woodlands and meadows not only provides an ideal environment for our cats to roam and play but also serves as a tranquil haven for various wildlife species.
From foxes and badgers to deer and pheasants, the Sanctuary’s natural beauty attracts an array of creatures throughout the year, making it particularly enchanting in the springtime.
The Cattery
In the centre of the Sanctuary grounds is the Cattery, which has 40 individual cattery pens which provide a temporary home for cats awaiting permanent new homes.
