The Lewisham Branch of the Celia Hammond Animal Trust opened in October 1995 with the main objective being the provision of a low cost neuter and vaccination clinic, thus bringing responsible pet ownership within the reach of everyone. The centre is now both a busy veterinary clinic providing low cost neutering and veterinary services for pets belonging to owners on benefits or a low income and a busy cat rescue and homing centre for unwanted, abandoned, stray and feral cats.    More information can be found on our Homing FAQ page: http://www.celiahammond.org/index.php/faqs/homing-a-cat

CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 SITUATION and cat adoptions.

UPDATE 4th APRIL 2021:  With the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions we are aiming to gradually re-open the centre to allow adopters to meet cats prior to adoption.  Currently adopters cannot come into the centre to choose and meet cats. From April 12th we will begin to allow adopters who have had a successful home assessment to come and meet suitable cats prior to adoption - this will be by appointment only and Covid safe measures will be in place.  Matching cats to new homes uing video clips of staff interacting with cats will still continue to be an option but actual meetings will be helpful particularly with our more challenging temperament cats.

UPDATE 28th JAN:  Unfortunately due to the pandemic it is not business as usual. Like everyone we are experiencing challenges continuing to run our rescue and homing service and care for the cats in the centre. We are running with a very reduced team because of the need to function in a covid safe way and the impact of the need for staff to isolate at times. We are essentially running an emergency service only e.g taking in sick and injured strays and cats after owners have died and there is no one to care for them.  We may be able to help with finding new homes for some other cats via 'direct rehoming' appeals on our website.

We have been receiving a very high level of enquiries about adopting cats particularly for friendly cats and kittens and cats for indoor only homes which we do not currently have coming into our care in any great numbers.  In a few months time when Covid rates are lower and we are not in lockdown we will be able to take in and rehome more cats once again but for now everyone needs to stay safe.

We don't want to offend and its lovely that so many people want to adopt cats but the level of enquiries is overwhelming and our staff are working very long hours, sometimes its all just getting to be "too much" so please be patient.

We do need: Homes for pairs and families of feral cats.  Experienced adult homes who can take on cats with nervous or challenging temperaments. Homes who can take on elderly cats with health problems.

Applying to adopt a cat: Please contact us by email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  In your email please include your name, address and contact tel no.   If you are interested in specific cats on our website please read their homing requirements and if you think you can meet their needs please include the cats names in your email.  Please let us know some general information about you, your home and household e.g how much experience you have with cats e.g previous and current cats / pets, who lives in your house including ages of any children. If you have a garden etc

Our Homing Centres are currently closed to visitors.
