Give a gift that truly matters

At our Greenacres Sanctuary, over 350 rescued cats rely on us, and now, we’re relying on you.
From elderly cats to abandoned mums and kittens, new arrivals come daily. With the cost-of-living crisis forcing more pets into our care, we’re stretched to the limit.

Your support can provide food, safety, and love to those who need it most.

A message from Carolyn at our Greenacres Animal Sanctuary

Dear Supporter

I’ve been working at the Celia Hammond Animal Trust for over twenty-five years, and I can honestly say, it’s never been busier. Every single day, I go home knowing there’s more I wish I could have done.

Here, at our Greenacres Sanctuary in Brede, near Hastings, which for some of our cats is a permanent home, we care for over 350 cats at any one time. We feed them, love them, provide veterinary care and the safety they’ve often never known . It’s much more than a full-time job, its a vocation for all of us.

As spring blooms, with sunshine, daffodils and growing grass, something else has arrived earlier than ever: so very many abandoned and unwanted mother cats and their kittens. Tiny, vulnerable lives already in need of help.

This Spring, we’re going to be facing one of our toughest challenges yet. We never put a healthy cat to sleep but our numbers keep growing. And with more cats comes the need for more food, more medicine, more time… and more love.

Like my colleagues, I’m incredibly proud of what we do, and grateful every day that I get to do something I love. But I also know we can’t do it without you. That’s why I feel compelled to ask for your help.

Your donation will help give a rescue cat in our care something truly meaningful, warmth, food, safety, hope and love.

Thank you for reading this letter. Thank you for caring. And thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for anything you can give to help us through this busy and critical time.

Sanctuary Manager

Right now, over 350 cats and kittens are depending on us at our Greenacres Sanctuary in East Sussex — and we’re depending on you. Every day, more arrive needing safety, care, and your kindness can be the reason a frightened cat finds warmth, food, and hope this Spring. Your donation means everything to them, and to the dedicated team who cares for them every day.

Now more than ever with the cost-of-living crisis taking hold, the number of families finding they can no longer afford vets fees or having to give up their family pet because of individual circumstances, is higher than we have ever seen.

Alongside this, Spring is also the time of year when traditionally we receive calls to take in unwanted and abandoned mother cats and litters of kittens, and with large numbers of kittens inevitably comes a huge increase in demand for our services

Every year the cost of running our dedicated Sanctuary in East Sussex increases. This year the increase is substantial and yet we find we need to keep providing more and more care and support, adding extra financial burden and making even more work for our small but dedicated team.
