Multi-Cat household – abandoned cats

For most of us, it would be an unthinkable act to move house and leave a family pet behind to fend for itself. That’s why were absolutely horrified when we received a call that several cats had been left inside a house for over 30 days since the tenants moved out! Our Canning Town rescue team rushed to the residence to provide assistance.
Met by the property owner, we learned he had discovered the cats two weeks prior and had been coming to feed them since that time. We were relieved to discover the cats hadn’t gone hungry for an entire month, but two weeks is still a dangerously long time for an animal to go without food, fresh water and clean litter trays.
Inside the home, closed off in a very small area that was the kitchen, we discovered three adult cats and four young kittens. All of the cats appeared quite thin and their surroundings were far from cleanly. When we got them back to the shelter we discovered not only were the cats absolutely ravenous, they were also crawling with fleas. All seven cats are currently undergoing close veterinary care and will be ready for adoption once they have been neutered and given a clean bill of health.
Sadly, these sort of occurrences are reported all too often to us here at CHAT. Your generosity is what makes it possible for our charity to continue caring for those animals who find themselves in compromising positions, with no one to care for them. Our charity does not receive government funding of any kind. The costs of medical care and rehoming of our animals has to be raised solely by CHAT and depends upon the kindness and generosity of our supporters.
