2025 has been one of the toughest years we can remember at Celia Hammond Animal Trust. With more cats than ever being abandoned, rising costs, and fewer resources to go around, it has tested every part of what we do. Despite this, the dedication of our amazing veterinary, rescue, homing, volunteer, and admin teams never wavered – we stood by and continue to stand by every cat that needs us.
As we look ahead to celebrating our 40th anniversary in 2026, we approach the future full of hope and positivity. Our vital work caring for animals must continue, but this will only be possible with help from our brilliant supporters – never forget, you are at the heart of all that we do!
We are delighted to report that our Emergency Neutering Appeal fundraising total currently stands at £125,000 – 55% of our overall target. If you are one of the 1,700+ people that have already made a donation, THANK YOU!
Our vets are now hard at work neutering as many cats as possible – sometimes up to 20 cats per day! However, if we are to reach our campaign goal of neutering 3,600 cats before the next breeding season begins in 2026, we still need to raise a further £100,000.
If you have not yet donated to our Emergency Neutering Appeal or if you are able to make a further donation, please do so ASAP and help us prevent the unnecessary birth of potentially tens of thousands of kittens in 2026.
Paddington was recently rescued from a farm in Kent during a 54-cat neuter and rescue programme, where years of unchecked breeding caused terrible suffering.
Paddington was initially labelled ‘ferocious’ by others, but we quickly discovered his true nature – Paddington is gentle, affectionate, and desperate for love after a life spent fighting to survive.
Paddington soon became our Emergency Neutering Appeal mascot, charming supporters and raising funds for other cats in need via his ‘kissing booth’ where people donate £10 for one of our team to give him a kiss.
Paddington’s heartwarming story is a highlight of the season, but it also carries a vital message. Without neutering, colonies like Paddington’s grow rapidly, leading to suffering and preventable illness. Every cat neutered is a life spared from hardship, and every adoption gives a cat the chance to experience care, safety, and happiness.
Thanks to your support, Paddington is now safe, healthy, socialised, and ready for his forever home, a perfect example of how compassion in action changes lives.

Thanks to the hard work of our dedicated teams in Canning Town, Lewisham, and Greenacres Sanctuary, this year we are on target to home 2,000 cats, 19 dogs, and 7 small furries. This is the result of so much careful work from rescue and rehabilitation to rehoming, and we are immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together this year.
Next year we celebrate our 40th anniversary and throughout 2026 we will be marking this major milestone with special events, fundraisers, and community activities. There are also exciting new projects underway that will make a real difference to cats in need of rescue and care, and we look forward to sharing details with you over the coming months.
To mark our 40th anniversary, we are excited to launch a special anniversary logo design competition, and we would love you to be part of it.
