Clint a shy stray unneutered male cat had suffered a nasty bite wound to the side of his face during a cat fight. Left untreated it had turned into a large abscess on the side of his face.
We were contacted by someone who had noticed his plight and were feeding him and trying to catch him to get him some help. With the aid of a cat trap Clint was captured and brought to our Lewisham veterinary clinic for treatment.
Clint had a particularly large infected wound which required several weeks of treatment with antibiotics and dressing changes. Fortunately the wound has healed well. Our vets have also neutered and microchipped Clint.
Unneutered male cats are territorial and aggressive towards other cats - particularly towards other unneutered male cats. Fight wounds such as abcesses are very common and stray male cats often end up in a terrible state with multiple wounds and injuries.
Although shy Clint has clearly once been someone's pet and must have strayed or been abandoned. His trust in us has taken a little time to grow as he did not enjoy the frequent dressing changes and wound cleaning that was necessary, however now that his wound has healed his confidence is growing and he is starting to enjoy human contact.
Clint is a middle aged cat (approx 8-10 years) who is seeking a kind and patient adult home. He will require a home with a garden and can live with other cats.
UPDATE 19th JULY: Clint is now much friendlier with people.
