Sadsack is an older ex stray cat (approx 10 years). Sadsack arrived in our care suffering with a very sore and infected mouth, he had severe gingivitis as well as rotten teeth. Our vets have had to remove all his teeth. He has also required anti-inflammatory medication (low dose steroids) to help settle his gums down. We have carried out blood tests and Sadsack is negative for FIV and FELV but has tested positive for calici virus. Calici virus which is one of cat flu viruses that can be vaccinated against. Some cats who are exposed to calici virus do develop severe gum disease. Now that Sadsack has received much needed dental work his mouth is feeling a lot more comfortable and our vets are gradually reducing his steroid medication as his mouth heals.
Sadsack is a very nervous cat and is seeking a rescue minded adult home. He is okay with other cats. We will continue to provide veterinary treatment for his mouth for as long as it is needed at our Lewisham clinic under our Long Term Foster Scheme.
