On this page we feature some of the animals in our care who really deserve a new, loving home, but who have so far been overlooked.
PLEASE NOTE: All potential homes are visited by a member of our rehoming team prior to rehoming any of our rescued animals. Due to our limited resources, we are ONLY able to home animals from the Canning Town Clinic in areas adjacent to this rescue centre, i.e. all 'E' postcodes (E1 to E18), 'RM' postcodes as far as Chafford Hundred, all 'IG' postcodes, also N1, N4, N5, N7, N16 and N17.
If you are outside CHAT's catchment areas, and wish to adopt a rescue cat, find a rescue centre near you at: catchat.org
SEPTEMBER 2010
Canning Town Branch is continuing to be inundated on a daily basis with calls to rescue stray and unwanted cats and is full to capacity - as fast as we rehome the animals in our care more arrive, it is a constant battle to manage to find space to accommodate them all!
We have lots of lovely young adult cats and a few elderly cats needing new homes as well as pairs of lively kittens and young mother cats with a kitten or two.
There are more cats that are not yet featured on our web page so get in touch and see if we have that special companion for you!
Following our appeal for volunteer photographers to help with taking photos of cats at Canning Town Branch to be featured on this webpage we were very pleased to receive three offers of help!
Sunniva Molvaer has very kindly been in and met our cats and taken some beautiful photos of them and some are now featured on this page. Sunniva has offered that for anyone rehoming one of the animals she has photographed she would be very happy to send them a high quality copy of their new pets photo. Sunniva has also posted the cats photo's on her blog: (http://sunnivamolvaer.co.uk/)
We think Sunniva's photos of our rescue cats are really stunning. Sunniva is a student photographer and now visits Canning Town Branch every weekend to take these beautiful photographs of our cats.
Shortage of towels and bedding
We are running short of small clean blankets and towels of all sizes at all our centres. If you live close to any of our centres or Head Office, and have blankets or towels you could donate, please do drop them in. However, we are not able to accept duvets or pillows.
12th AUGUST: NEW ARRIVALS: MUM AND FOUR KITTENS RESCUED FROM A GUTTER!
August 12th: "Called out this morning to a house, where a man recently had an operation and the doctor advised him to not have any animals in the house. He therefore promptly put his heavily pregnant cat outside
permanently. Two days ago, she gave birth to 5 kittens in the drain at
the front of the house. One of the kittens was found without its head
this morning."
These kittens will not be ready for rehoming until they are 8-9 weeks old therefore this family require either a temporary foster home now or a home who will adopt mum and one or two of her kittens permanently and foster the 'extras' until they are weaned and ready to go to new homes.
To enquire about this mum and her babies, or to find out about other animals at Canning Town, please telephone 0207 474 8811 or send CHAT an email [Please include a contact phone number]
BELLA - SEEKS SPECIAL INDOOR ONLY HOME
31st Aug: Bella has very limited eyesight and is seeking an indoor only home. She is approx 5 months old and would appreciate the company of another cat - perhaps another blind cat?

1st July: Starving Dog brought to Canning Town Branch
1st July: This dog was found wandering on the street in East London.
She is in an emaciated condition and has clearly been starved. The end of her tail is sore and we think she had been kept in a small space where her tail had been hitting a wall or hard surface when she wagged it.
Poppy as we have named her is such an adorable good natured dog - we just cannot imagine how anyone could be so cruel to her.
She is approx 2-3 years old and seems to be good with cats, other dogs and loves people. She is a medium size cross breed.
Canning Town Branch does not have facilities to care for dogs for any length of time whilst awaiting homes. Poppy can be homed now whilst she continues to gain weight, when she is fitter our vets will neuter her.

Update 10th July: Poppy is gaining weight well and is thrilled with all the kind attention she is receiving - you can really see the gratitude in her face.
To enquire about Poppy, or to find out about other animals at Canning Town, please telephone 0207 474 8811 or send CHAT an email [Please include a contact phone number]
Amy Urgently Needs a Home
Amy pictured here was found as a stray - she had a badly broken back leg, an injury that our vet said must be at least six weeks old. Amy's leg has now been operated on at our Canning Town clinic and she is desperate to find a loving new home. Amy is a really friendly dog and loves attention
DUSTY AND DIESEL - Seeking an outdoor, semi-feral home...
These kittens were born to some mother cats who had original been thrown out and were living in gardens.
We have neutered and returned the mother cats who are continuing to be fed. We decided to take in these kittens to tame and rehome as we felt they could be in danger as they were attracting the attention of local children who were trying to capture them.
Their sister has found a home but Dusty and Diesel are still waiting.
They are five months old and are neutered and vaccinated. They would suit an adult home with a garden and cat flap.
UPDATE 6th SEPT: Dusty and Diesel are still very shy and have been moved to our larger cattery pens where they are now awaiting an outdoor - semi-feral home such as at a farm, stables or small holding. They will require regular good quality food and dry shelter but in return will provide an effective rodent patrol.
To enquire about Dusty and Diesel, or to find out about other animals at Canning Town, please telephone 0207 474 8811 or send CHAT an email [Please include a contact phone number]

MITZY - TOP PRIORITY - BEEN WAITING TOO LONG FOR A HOME! Temporary foster homes also considered.
Mitzy needs an understanding new owner who can let her be herself and choose when she is ready for some attention.
Mitzy is temperamental and sometimes does not like to be touched too much, she hates being in a cage and this is making her behaviour worse.
She is approx 5 years old and came to us from another independent local rescue.
She would be benefit from being adopted or even temporarily fostered by an experienced cat owner.
Update 19th Feb: Mitzy is making progress and has become much more relaxed as she is getting used to us.
UPDATE 17TH AUGUST: Mitzy has been with us too long and this is not helping her temperment. However she is a difficult cat and will need a rescue minded person who can leave her be and not want to make a fuss of her initially, Mitzy needs to accept people and aproach her new owner when she is ready.
To enquire about Mitzy, or to find out about other animals at Canning Town, please telephone 0207 474 8811 or send CHAT an email [Please include a contact phone number]

They are seeking an adult home with a garden and cat flap. They are high priority in need of a home because they have been with us for a long time.

FREDDIE, TORRIE AND ELLIE
A really lovely family - dad, mum and daughter. Freddie (tabby/white) is a huge, really stunning friendly male cat, his friend, Torrie is the sweetest petite brindle tortie and Ellie is a small, sleek, young black/white female.
They lost their home after their owners were evicted and have been waiting several months for a new one.
They would really love a new home with a garden. They are friendly enough for an adult home or a family with sensible older children.
Update 17th August: We have tried really hard to rehome this family as a trio but with no offers we have taken the difficult decision to split the family. Ellie and Torrie will get to stay together and Freddie is now available to be homed separately.

He has received much needed dental treatment and is now feeling comfortable again.
Banguelo was so nervous when he arrived that we thought he was a feral cat. Celia was convinced otherwise and picked him up and held him, after ten minutes he began to relax in her arms. He has clearly had a very hard time as a stray and will need a lot of patience initially until he overcomes his shyness.
To enquire about Banguelo, or to find out about other animals at Canning Town, please telephone 0207 474 8811 or send CHAT an email [Please include a contact phone number]
17th Aug: MUM AND SIX NEWBORN KITTENS!
17th Aug: This young stray cat proudly produced six new kittens yesterday - we could have done without yet more kittens to find homes for!
(photo taken the day before - hence no visible kittens!)

MOLLY
Molly is the most adorable, cuddly little cat.
Molly was living stray in an elderly woman's garden and was reported to us because of her sore scabby ears.
Molly had white ears and had developed skin cancer from sunbathing. In order to stop it spreading further her ears had to be amputated - don't worry she can still hear it's just the ear flaps!
Cats with white ears and noses are at risk or developing skin cancer if they spend too much time lying in the sun. Owners can protect their cats by applying sun block to vulnerable areas on sunny days. If you spot red, sore scabby ear tips or scabs on your cats nose that don't heal they may have skin cancer so take them to a vet to be checked. If caught in time your cats life can be saved.
To enquire about Molly, or to find out about other animals at Canning Town, please telephone 0207 474 8811 or send CHAT an email [Please include a contact phone number]

WHISKAS - spent 8 months under a kitchen sink living in filth.
Poor Whiskas has had a really hard time. He was 'rescued' by a man from some people who he told us were badly treating him. He took Whiskas back to his home and let him out of the cat basket, Whiskas promptly disappeared under the kitchen sink unit and was there for the next 8 months!
If this wasn't bad enough the house was completely filthy - in an absolutely appalling state. The kitchen was squalid and running alive with *bleep*roaches.
We were asked to rescue Whiskas from under the sink. His skin is covered in sores which are probably due to lying in such unhygienic conditions for so long - hopefully his skin will heal fully soon.
Whiskas is very shy but when we sit quietly with him after ten minutes of gentle stroking he starts to relax and has even purred once or twice.
A patient and understanding adult home is sought for Whiskas.
To enquire about Whiskas, or to find out about other animals at Canning Town, please telephone 0207 474 8811 or send CHAT an email [Please include a contact phone number]
KITTENS
These kittens were living in an open storm water drainage system along with their mum and another sibling. Their mum could climb in and out of the sheer concrete sides but the kittens were not able to get out - if there had been heavy rain there was a real risk that they wold have drowned.
They are seeking homes in pairs.
